Swift House Inn’s Main House

The Main House offers nine rooms for a premier New England bed and breakfast experience. Originally built in 1814 by Samuel Swift, our Main House is the most historic of all the buildings and offers the largest variety of rooms, each with its own unique personality.

The only guest room on the first floor of this building is our Garden Room, which features a king-size bed, double jetted tub/shower, and a private patio that is great for enjoying the warmer days of summer and fall. The Swift Room, located on the second floor, features a queen-size bed, a fireplace for the chilly winter nights, and a private deck for the lovely warm summer evenings. The Governors Room is a large, sunny, corner room that offers a king-size bed, a jetted tub, and a gas fireplace; it is an excellent choice for a romantic night during our cold winter months. The Clark Room, which is situated at the end of the hallway, features a queen-size bed and a twin-size XL memory foam sleeper sofa, which makes this the perfect room for a family when visiting Middlebury College.

Conveniently located on the first floor is the parlor, the dining room, and our fully stocked bar with local beers on tap and a Wine Spectator award-winning wine list. Each morning, a complimentary full breakfast is served, 7:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. On nights that we serve dinner, the dining room is transformed into Jessica’s Restaurant. Jessica’s provides a full menu with choices ranging from a Swift Burger with hand-cut fries, to a variety of salads, to a fine-dining experience with a half-duckling or a juicy steak. In the winter, guests can read a book next to the warmth of the fireplace in the parlor, or in the summer, sip a glass of wine on the screened-in porch in the light of the setting sun. We are sure to have something to suit your needs, no matter what is bringing you to Middlebury, Vermont.
