There are many situations in which we can use the saying, “the more the merrier!” A party with friends, birthdays, after work meet-ups, community service projects, vacations, and summer picnics are just a few. Now that summer is around the corner we’ll be talking about great things to do outdoors here and around Middlebury, VT and the one we are highlighting today is hiking trips with The Green Mountain Club.
The Green Mountain Club is an organization that started in 1910 with a mission to preserve and protect Vermont’s Long Trail. The Long Trail is America’s first long distance hiking path that travels along the main ridge of the Green Mountains and stretches from the Massachusetts state line to the Canadian border. The club now has over 10,000 members and outside of protecting and advocating for the trail, they provide a lot of information about trips and hikes throughout the year. The club is actually divided into 14 different sections based on location and each section leads a variety of hiking trips each year. You can check out the entire calendar here, which details all of the trips that will be going out each month including starting place and time, level of difficulty, trip leader and contact information.
A note for any of you that may be gathering a group larger than 10 people to take a hike; there is a chance that you may need a special permit. It all depends on whether you will be traveling through the Green Mountain National Forest or on Vermont state land and you will need to apply for a permit at least 30 days prior to your trip.
While the club has hikes all over the state, there are many places to check out close to our inn—just give us a call and we’ll help you plan the perfect outdoor adventure! The outdoors is calling your name…what are you waiting for?
