Sweet Golden Honey at Champlain Valley Apiaries, VT

At our inn, located in the heart of Middlebury, VT, we host guests from all over, whether right from our own backyard or across the country. It is such a pleasure meeting people from all walks of life and one of the things we love to do is search for the best local places our guests can visit and explore. We’ve sent guests on hiking trips, showed them the best bike riding trails, helped find the antique shops and the most delicious restaurants to try. We happen to like the more “off the beaten path” places as well and the Champlain Valley Apiaries is one such place that we encourage you to visit this fall.

If you haven’t heard the word “apiary” before, it is simply a place where beehives are kept. Beekeepers are also known as apiarists. Champlain Valley Apiaries was founded in 1931 and the business is in its third generation of ownership. Vermont is known as the “land of milk and honey” and this apiary produces some of the highest quality honey you will find. Most of the 40,000 pounds of honey they produce every year is clover honey. One of their best sellers is the crystallized or raw honey. It is packed without any special processing as if you are getting the sweet honey right from the honeycomb. They also sell liquid honey of course and theirs has a wonderful natural fragrant flavor.

In addition to jars of honey the apiary also sells bath and body products, books, candles and beeswax, maple syrup, and many deluxe gift baskets. If you were in the mood for some early Christmas shopping, one of their gift baskets would be a perfect idea!

They are just a few minutes from our inn, making their place a “sweet” place to stop during your time here in Vermont. There is still time to sneak in a quick fall getaway—book online with us today or feel free to contact us for more information. Don’t forget to check out our seasonal specials too!
