Glimpse of the Past at Chimney Point Historic Site, VT

Where have your travels taken you this summer? Perhaps you have enjoyed a wonderful tropical vacation, a superb winery tour, or even a fun road trip full of adventure. For travelers passing through our area or guests with us at the inn, we have a special spot we would like to share with you. On the eastern shore of Lake Champlain in Addison, VT is a beautiful place called Chimney Point.
Chimney Point is a historic site at the foot of the Lake Champlain Bridge. It holds a significant place in history as a site that saw every period of human habitation. The first people arrived to settle here almost 9000 years ago, it was a crucial meeting point for Europeans and Native people, the English used this area to keep a close watch on French enemies crossing the lake, the French took over at one point to keep the English away, and there was a lot of military activity here during the French and Indian War and the American Revolution.
During a visit here you can tour the museum with a myriad of artifacts and displays. You can also stroll the grounds, walk across the Lake Champlain Bridge—it is an interesting and relaxing place to spend a summer afternoon, especially if you are a history buff!
Summer Events & Activities at Chimney Point:
July 18, 2015 – Blast From the Past – enjoy hands on demonstrations and crafts as you learn how things were done in the past at Chimney Point.
July 31, 2015 – Evening to Remember Social – relax on a beautiful summer evening with music, activities, museum tours, and visit with costumed staff as they share about the past.
August 30, 2015 – Points of Interest: Lake Champlain Bridge Guided Walk – learn about the history of the area surrounding the bridge with Chimney Point administrator Elsa Gilbertson.
