Life's most memorable moments are spent with loved ones in exceptional places, and the Swift House Inn, our bed & breakfast in Middlebury, Vermont, is just such a place.
Located in historic Middlebury, Vermont, this 20-room former governor's mansion is Middlebury's only classic Vermont country inn and offers the essence of New England warmth.

Inside, candlelit dinners await you. Large, comfortable rooms offer modern amenities in period decor. Relax, sip a glass of wine by the fire, or ponder your favorite book in the library while the kids explore the garden or sled on a nearby hill. Enjoy complimentary 24-hour coffee service, cookies, and Middlebury's only accommodation where a full breakfast is included! Every window frames a picture of country tranquility; yet shops, museums, and Middlebury College are a short walk away.

Things to DO and SEE

Middlebury's central Vermont location makes it an easy drive to major attractions: the Shelburne Museum, New York's Fort Ticonderoga, Lake Champlain, the  Moosalamoo Recreation Area and the ski areas of central Vermont.

There is also plenty to do right in the neighborhood. Middlebury is home to the Sheldon Museum, the oldest community museum in the country. Nearby is the Robert Frost Homestead, the Middlebury College Museum of Art, the famed Bread Loaf Writers' School and ski areas of Middlebury College Snow Bowl and Rikert Cross Country Center just up the mountain.

Seasonal Packages

As the seasons change in Vermont, so do the lodging and dining packages the Inn has to offer. We have created a number of packages for 2015 that highlight each of the four seasons.

June is here! It is the perfect time to plan a trip to Vermont. Just a short drive from popular attractions like Shelburne Museum, Woodstock, Vermont, New York’s Fort Ticonderoga and Lake Champlain. Whether you are looking to hike, bike, fish, visit one of the many small microbreweries or just relax and unwind, we are the place to do it.

Looking to Hike? A favorite is a climb to Silver Lake and Rattlesnake Cliffs where you will overlook Lake Dunmore. For a short walk, try out the TAM trail which goes through town, the college, next to Otter Creek and all around Middlebury.

Biking is one of the most popular summer activities. Dan is always on hand to offer a suggestion for a nice ride from 12 to 58 miles based on your skill level. Feeling adventurous? Try doing a gap to gap ride. With an ascent of 3,100`, across the Middlebury Gap, down the back side of the green mountains and through the Mad River Valley then back up and over the Brandon Gap. A total ride of 58 miles taking you through many small towns, pass rambling brooks and through beautiful farm land.

Another popular summer past time is fly fishing. The New Haven River offers anglers a bounty of pools to catch both brook and rainbow trout. New to the area and need a guide to show you all the hot spots? Local guide service Stream and Brook offers advice, help with your technique and great fish!

Vermont is ranked number one nationally for craft breweries per capita in America. The Vermont Brewers Association has 39 members and grows every year. Right here in Middlebury we have Drop In and Otter Creek. Not much for beer? No problem, try Woodchuck Hard Cider, Appalachian Gap Distillery or Lincoln Peak Vineyards. One of these fine producers is sure to have something to suit everyone’s tastes.

At the end of a long day, come back and enjoy a meal on the deck at Jessica’s Restaurant. Chef Rob has a little of everything on the menu from a salad to burger and fries to a half duckling in a blueberry brandy sauce. Starting Wednesday June 10th we will be also be serving on Wednesday nights.

Don’t forget that during the months of June, July, and August, come enjoy our Summer Getaway package which gives you an 18% discount off any of the room rates when you stay for three or more nights. Start planning your trip today and see all that Vermont and Addison County has to offer!
